Dear Rita & family;
Marius & I are very saddened to learn of Ron’s passing. I really got to know Ron when he joined the board of governors while he was involved with the alumni association. I very much enjoyed and respected his insights with all matters. He was a true wise gentleman and a deep blue Xaverian. May fond memories and family & friends be of comfort at this time of mourning. Our prayers and condolences go to you and your family.

Rita & family, sending our sincere condolences on Ron’s passing. It has been many years since we have seen each other. Once our daughter left Grand Falls we stopped visiting. We have wonderful memories of that great trip to Ireland and the many friends we made. Ron was a great bit of fun on that trip and, of course, he and Shaun, as former educators, had a great deal in common. Take care of yourself. Shaun & Loretta Dobbin

Rita and Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear about Ron’s passing! I always felt so privileged to have worked with Ron at the Exploits-White Bay Roman Catholic School Board in the late ‘80’s. Always the wise and learned gentleman he welcomed and respected everyone. I will never forget how both you and Ron offered your generous hospitality to me while I had to wait for available living quarters in Grand Falls. On my journey as an educator I have always appreciated so much that I learned from Ron during my time working with him! Cherish your memories and May He Rest In Peace!

Hello Rita. I was very sad to hear the news that Ron had died. I have been out of touch and I wasn’t aware that he was failing. You and Ron were a special couple and I so enjoyed meeting you through Ron’s connection to StFX. . I enjoyed our time together and I know that you will miss him terribly. He was a wonderful man and as the obituary reads a gentle man.
My sympathies to you and the family.
Sincerely, Noreen

Rita and family, deepest condolences on the passing of a real gentleman. I attended many a meeting with Ron when we were both Superintendents with School Boards in NL and we were not a large group. Ron always had great contributions to make during the meetings that we all suffered through with Government and with our own group. I feel I knew the Southcotts my whole life as Judy and I went all the way through school together. May Ron rest in the peace he so richly deserves. from Harold and Gerri Stapleton, Mount Pearl

Rita and family, please accept my sincerest condolences on Ron’s passing. His journey to his new home was a long and fulfilling exercise, giving joy and happiness to all who met him. Our relationship spans almost all of our respective lives, one in which we remained very close friends and competitors throughout our school days at NDA. We competed for first place, among the boys...a number of the girls always were able to beat us!!! But Ron crossed the finish line in first in 1955 winning AND Company Scholarship allowing him to go to his beloved St. FX.
Given my subsequent career at Scotiabank, I was able to drop into Grand Falls many times and one the highlights of those visits was the opportunity to drop in to visit Ron and Rita and discuss friends and issues of the day. Always an animated discussion!!!
Since the onset of his devastating illness, I was able to visit Ron & Rita in Bedford on a couple of occasions, and while the illness was obvious, his joyful spirit was always present. Knowing his further challenges recently, I know that he now in a better place. May the memories you shared sustain you during the trying times ahead. RIP.
