It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Stephen Murphy on January 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the eldest son of the late Edward and Elizabeth ( AuCoin ) Murphy.
He worked in the Coal Mines for over 37 years until his early retirement. Alfie was a kind and generous man to all who knew him. He enjoyed watching wrestling; working on cars, and his favorite passion was motorbikes. Alfie also enjoyed going to dances and doing his Polka; Family was who Alfie truly loved to be with.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Hughena (Carocci); his children, Lynda (Donald) Clements, Brenda (Pat) MacDonald, Joanne (Paul) Chislett, Nancy (Hyler) McGrath, Stephen (Lisa) Murphy, and Laurie (Joseph) McNeil; Grandchildren, Ryan, Stacy (AJ), Samantha (Wade), Danielle, Brandon (Kelsey), Shaun (Alyssa), Christian (Kayla), Hyler, Spencer and Darcy.
Alfred is also survived by his stepdaughter, Denise (Chris) Campbell and step-grandchildren, Justyn, James and Lucy.
Also surviving are brothers, Brian (Gayle), Wayne (Barbara), Roy (Maria), as well as many nieces and nephews; Aunt Julia Fitzpatrick and special nephew, Andrew (Jamie) Murphy and family. He will also be remembered by the mother of his children, Mary Burke.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew Shaun Murphy and many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff on the 4A and Palliative Care Units, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay.(902) 849-4199.
