I played Lacrosse with both Bernard and John, I remember that Bernard was training to become an electrician. Over the years, I often wondered how the brothers were doing but didn’t know any details. I just heard about Bernard’s passing from my good friend, Garth Horne, it was an opportunity to speak of him and “Wiggy” who left such a good impression with us both from a time when life was simple and careful, Condolences to Bernard’s Family and Friends, Rest In Peace, Brother and Godspeed.

I was 24 years old when I was hired as an apprentice electrician for government services. Bernard was a journeyman and he took me under his wing. That was the start of our 42 year friendship.
He was a very smart electrician and I learned a lot from him. Bernie loved drag racing. This prompted us to plan a road trip. We drove to Montreal to watch Shirley Muldowney race. Bernie was in his glory, the louder the cars were, the bigger the smile grew on his face. We spent a lot of time together over the years. In 1997 he and wife Susan moved to Florida. My wife and I managed to get down to Florida for a visit. All of the time spent with Bernard was very rewarding. He was an interesting, intelligent and quick witted man. He always had a story and his sense of humor was unforgettable.
He will be very sadly missed and will always have a huge place in our hearts.
We love you brother, George Rattray

Bernard was a really nice guy. A bit mischievous, definitely light-hearted and completely welcoming to Margaret and me. How cruel that he passed so quickly and his family are so far away. I know he would have preferred to see you through, Sue. Margaret and I made a donation to conservation of Monarch butterflies in Nova Scotia in yours and Bernard’s name. Like you and Bernard did all those years ago, they make an epic and colourful life journey from Nova Scotia through Florida, and back again. So much love to you Sue and our deepest sympathy to Bernard’s friends and family.

I knew Bernard from 40+ years ago; we were neighbours on Robert Murphy Drive in Halifax and I used to 'knock about' with John in my younger days.
Bernard was a great guy and always seemed to have a joke to tell. It's sad how you lose contact with people as you age, but from the condolences and postings it seems that Bernard was blessed with a beautiful family and a happy and successful life!
My condolences to his family

Oh Bernie man.....you had a appreciation for the finer things, especially a little word play. When my son was born you called to congratulate me. "what's his name?"
"We called him Liam."
"Oh ya man, love'em and leave them, gonna be trouble. He just might end up a postman, because Liam spelled backwards is mail!"
I got to know Bernie a little before he married my big sis. We had some mutual friends and hangouts, (to the chagrin of my sis)always had a laugh. I think I greeted him back then as "Oh my God Magnum!" The mustache was a wry as his humour.
Yes, Bernie liked the finer things, that's why he married Susan!
Lots of love to all who have experienced the loss of this man. I will always smile when I think about him. Sue now has another guardian angel looking out for her.
Love you sis.

The words don’t come easy, so forgive me Sue, if I stumble as I try. I did not have a lot of time to get to know Bernard, but he left an impression, that is for sure. He had a wry grin only matched by the twinkle in his eyes, fast cars, and a golden tan from the sun on his face – but above all, the mustache.
He was a man blessed with a wife far more precious than rubies; in you, he found a good thing.
My heart swells at your loss and there is no consoling it, so instead, I draw pictures. This one is for you dear, sweet Sue.
I love you so much,
Xoxo

I'm Bernard's youngest brother.
My brother Bernard was always there when I needed someone to talk with.
He had an abundance of common sense and wisdom. I respected his opinions and took them to heart.
I remember my dad dragged Bernard out of bed very early one Winter Sunday morning. They came to rescue me two and a half hours away when my car went off the road in a blizzard. Bernard reminded me often throughout the years of his early morning sacrifice that day. :)
Needless to say, my brother Bernard will always hold a special place in my heart and will never be forgotten.
Mark Cleary.
