Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan King Glace Bay It is with broken hearts, that we the family of Joan Ann (Kennedy) King announce her passing at Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday December 9, 2020. Joan was born in Glace Bay on June 3, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Isabel (Craig) Bourgeois. After graduating from Morrison High School in 1962 Joan went to work at Goldman’s Fish Plant doing payroll. A few years later she started working on the switchboard at the General Hospital and went on to work in payroll. In the late seventies, she went to work at Marshall’s, and from there to the Co-op until 1994. Mom liked to spend time reading and skating. She will be sadly missed by her old skating partner. She loved to dance, so there was always music playing in her home, particularly at Christmas time. Her favorite things to do were cooking and baking. Mom’s home was always filled with wonderful smells and always had a house full of family and friends to enjoy it. If asked Joan would say her greatest achievement was her family. One of her best qualities was her ability to make everyone around her laugh. Whoever met her, walked away smiling and laughing. She was always so full of fun. Joan is survived by her daughter Janice Walker of Glace Bay; son Jimmie (Mary) King of Scotchtown; grandson Aidan Phalen Glace Bay; stepson Marve (Elizabeth) King of Glace Bay, their three children Shelley, Jennifer and Tyler (Amy); stepdaughter Linda (Glenn) Ford of Hillside Mira, and their two children Marcia and Jacqueline (Jack); brothers Blaine, John ‘Minnow’ (Betty), Freddie (Cheryl) all of Glace Bay, Craig (Lynn) of Limehouse ON; and a very special aunt and uncle Anna and Jimmy Kennedy of Sydney. Joan was predeceased by her father Earl; mother Isabel; as well as her son-in-law Hank Walker. The family would to thank Dr. Michael Gallivan for all the years he has taken care of mom. Also we would like to express sincere thanks to the doctors and staff of 3 South for their wonderful care and support over these last few months, and to the staff at the lab of Glace Bay Hospital for taking great care of Mom over the past few years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday December 18, 2020 from 12-2 p.m. and a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach presiding, under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay.902-849-4199. Family flowers only.
