Fedrick Andrew McKenzie October 31 1934 -November 30 2020
Passed away peacefully on November 30th he is Survived by his loving wife Rose of 47 years Children Deborah, Tina (Keith) Crocket, Darren (Colleen) Brigley, brothers; Richard (Ros), Mike (Mary), sisters; Sharon (Francis), Granddaughters; Crystal (Shane), Candis (Evan) and Great Granddaughter Sparrowe he was predeceasd by his brothers; Jim and Glen and sisters; Rita and Judy.
Fredrick went by Fred or Freddy for short, was born on Halloween. Fred grew up in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. As a young man he was in the Navy and worked on tankers for Irving. From there he was a bartender at the Seaway Tavern in Halifax, he then bartended at the Derby Tavern in Halifax that was next to Camila’s Fish & Chips that’s where he first met Rose. Years later Rose and Fred ran into each other again when he was bartending at the Beach Comber in the Citadel Inn in Halifax and that’s when Fred ask Rose on a date, the rest is history they were married on Dec 21 1974. They built their first house together on Nordic Cres where they lived with Rose’s two children from a previous marriage, Tina & Darren, Freddy also had a daughter deb from his previous marriage that lived with her mother. They lived there until they built their second home on First Lake Dr. in Lr. Sackville right on the Lake. Fred worked at the Hub and the Hub 2 in Dartmouth as a bartender until he opened Our Friends Pub in 1997, after that him and Rose delivered “The Chronical Herold” they did that for 13 years till they retired. Fred had 2 grand children Crystal (Shane) and Candis (Evan) and just had the pleasure of meeting his Great Granddaughter Sparrowe. When his first grandchild was born, he was asked what he would like his granddaughter to call him he replied with “just call me Grumpy” he will always be know to his granddaughters lovingly as Grumpy. He was the kind of man that could make you feel how much he loved you without ever having to say the words. His smile was infectious, it was hard not to smile when he was around. Fred and his wife Rose did everything together dances, golf, darts, camping at their trailer in the summer. He was a loving husband, father, brother Grandfather and friend who is deeply loved by his family and friends and will be truly missed.
