Please share a memory of Monica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of our dear Monica MacPhee (nee Stark) early on Thursday November 19, 2020 at Hospice Halifax. Monica was born in Halifax and raised with her 4 brothers, and spent a lot of time with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins. Her formative years were in Nova Scotia and she attended Mount Saint Vincent University in the Medical Secretary program. She spent 5 years in Toronto working for an oncologist at Toronto General Hospital. It was in Toronto where her first son Jason was born. After returning to Nova Scotia she gave birth to her second son Nick. They were the center of her life, her foundation and she gave them the best life she could as a single parent. Her love was more than reciprocated by her ‘Boys’. Monica worked in the Medical Records department at The Victoria General Hospital for almost 30 years and retired two years ago. Monica was very laid back and she enjoyed her time watching football - the Green Bay Packers, hockey - the Toronto Maple Leafs, and baseball - the Toronto Blue Jays, and of course spending time with her sons and her extended family and friends. Monica was able to make a two week trip to Ontario last fall to visit two brothers and a sister-in-law. Monica was predeceased by her ex-husband Steve, father Carl, brother Sydney and step father Murray. She is survived by her two sons; Jason and Nick (Samantha), mother Joan Decker, brothers; Michael (Michael), Kevin (Liz), sister-in-law Cathy and Carl (Vass), granddaughter Maggie, nieces; Sasha, Carleigh, Casey, Cassidy and great nephews; Wade and Jacob and great niece Leah and many cousins In Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Alberta and her long time friend Wendy. Monica was fortunate to have spent her last 10 weeks at Hospice Halifax where she was truly indulged. The staff were amazing and looked after her every need, a close bond developed between them and Monica during this time period. It also allowed her sons, mother and brother to visit and spend quality time with her. A favourite event for Monica was to let her mother and brother Carl know what she wanted to have for weekend dinner which they lovingly prepared and enjoyed with her.
