SHEPPARD GEORGINA J. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Georgina Sheppard (formerly of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador) announce her sudden passing on October 26, 2020 in Halifax, NS. Georgina will be lovingly missed by her sister, Christina Sheppard of Edmonton, AB, and brother Gary Sheppard (Debbie) of Marysville, ON; niece Shelly Reddy (Ben Beringer) of Edmonton, AB, nephews Freeman and Elliott Sheppard of Marysville, ON. Georgina was 67 years old born June 24, 1953 to parents George and Doris Sheppard. Her mother, Doris Goguen Sheppard, passed on Dec 30, 2018; and her father, George F Sheppard, passed on February 17, 2020. Two brothers predeceased her: Robert (Bobby) at age fourteen and Larry at age twenty-two. Georgina was the eldest of 5 children. Her family fondly remembers Georgina’s ability to tell the best jokes and stories, and taking great pleasure in outdoor adventures snowmobiling, skiing, boating, spending time with family, and helping others. Georgina graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987. She served in the Canadian Armed Forces and was regarded as an ambitious and dedicated member earning the rank of Lieutenant prior to departing due to illness. Georgina was an accomplished writer and competed in US and North American writer competitions. Her passion for writing poetry was recognized internationally and she received multiple awards; most notably was the US President’s Award for Literacy Excellence in 1996 for her poem “Triumph Lost”. Her love for Labrador was expressed in a published short story entitled “The Little Light” reflecting her childhood memories (Them Days Dec 1998). Georgina has an extensive family of Aunts, Uncles, and close cousins who will fondly remember her witty personality and love for life. A memorial service will be held for Georgina in Happy Valley-Goose Bay as soon as it is safe to do so. She will be buried in the Anglican cemetery with her other family members.
