Mary Shibinette
Glace Bay
With heavy hearts, we the family of Mary Shibinette, sadly announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, on November 12, 2020 at New Waterford Heights.
Born and raised in Glace Bay with her seven brothers, Mary was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Cooper) Nickelo. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In her early years, Mom spent most of her time raising her family. She was at her proudest when “Nan” was with her grandkids; going for ice-creams, watching dance recitals, sporting events and concerts.
After the passing of her husband, Art, at an early age, Mom went back to school to take a PCW course and worked for several years at the Seaview Manor, where she formed many long lasting friendships. She was a proud member of Reserve Mines Pensioner Club for several years. Mom enjoyed going to her card games with her dear friend Rachael; and afterwards, she looked forward to the trip to Tim Hortons with her “Tims” Friends. She was always up to a trip to Bangor to shop, Florida to visit friends and her yearly trips to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre’.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Lorna (Keith) McPherson, Sherri (Brian) MacCormack; her eight grandchildren, whom she adored, Erin (Jason), Nicole (Craig), Jenna, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Jennifer, Mary and Adam (Angelina); and her five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Rylan, Kale, Alliannah, and Kamryn; as well as daughter-in-law Sandra.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Art, her son Butch and her seven brothers, Johnny, Nick, Leo, William, Gus, Fabe and Pete.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank New Waterford Homecare services. The staff of 4 North Glace Bay and the staff of New Waterford Heights, for making her feel at home.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. (902) 849-4199.
At Mary’s request there will be no visitation. There will be a private family service.
