Manning Murdock Victor MacKeigan Sydney It is with much sadness and broken hearts that the family of Manning MacKeigan, age 69, of Grand Lake Rd., announce his passing on November 8, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving wife Edith, sister-in-law Berda, and best friend Angelo by his side. Manning was the only child of the late Murdock and Augusta (Tata) Leterte Mac Keigan. He was the last surviving member of his family. Manning was a loving husband, step-dad, Popie, cousin and best friend, who will be missed dearly. In 1969, at the age of 18, Manning joined the Royal Canadian Army. After he served for a few years, Manning received an honorable discharge. He then went on to work in the oil patch out west. Manning returned home in 1978 and started working at Sydney Steel in 1979, where he was employed and worked in many departments for 21 years. After the closure of the Steel Plant, he began working with System Care doing restoration. In 2006 Manning took a Scaffolding course and again headed West. Retiring in 2015, he took a job as a maintenance worker at the Hearthstone Inn on King’s Road, Sydney. Working was in Manning’s blood, and he was one of the hardest working men of all. Manning was forced into retirement after suffering two strokes in the fall of 2016, and later developing COPD and Emphysema. He was a member of the Wrathall Village Men’s Club, Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion, Dorchester St., Patron of Branch 138, Ashby, Sydney. Manning was a woodworker, cabinet maker and carpenter. He loved making his picnic tables and Adirondack Chairs each summer. Manning loved his antique car which he inherited from his parents, He was very proud of his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, which he and Edith purchased in 2010. There were many great memories made with the bike, as they travelled to motorcycle rallies, one to mention is the Wharf Rally, in which they attended yearly with their sidekick Doug Turner. In 2013, he and Edith enjoyed a 45 day tour of Canada. He also loved to play snooker with his many friends; you know who you all are. Thank you! Manning is survived by his loving and cherished wife of 25 years, Edith (Green), if you saw one; the other wasn’t too far behind. He was a very loving husband and Edith’s best friend. Manning is also survived by his stepchildren; Norma Wadden, Terri Lynn (Andrew) Wall, and Ross Wadden (Melissa), as well as his four grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; Aiden, Hannah, Abigail and Nathan. Manning is also survived by his father-in-law; Bobby Green (Sharon);mother-in-law Carol Green; brothers–in-law Robert Green, Paul Green (Cheryl), Paul’s children, Chelsea and Marcus; sister-in-law, Brenda Gouthro (Greg); and Brenda’s boys, Martin Joseph and Devon; as well as his fur-babies Maizie and Cinnamon. Manning also leaves behind many cousins from both sides of his family and many special friends, way too many to mention.
