Age 89, of Halifax. Passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, Victoria General Hospital, Halifax on Friday, October 30, 2020 Ruby Matilda Pretty, age 89, born in Port-aux-Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador residing in Bedford, NS.
Left to mourn with wonderful memories are sister, Shirley (Bob) Bragg; son, Jerry (Anne Marie); daughters, Valerie, and Catherine (Greg); grandchildren, Tara (Josh), Bobby (Rebecca), Mitchell (Naomi), Shemara (Adam), Jayme (Danny), and Georgia; great-grandchildren, Bella, Cate, Claire, Phoenix, Linkynn, and Hazen, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends.
Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Annie Butler formerly of Port-aux-Basques, NL; husband of 53 years, Harry; precious son, Bobby; sister, June; brother-in-law, Jack; brother-in-law, Bob; niece, Ruby, and nephew, Jack.
A very special thank you to Dr. Kathy Gallagher, and her outstanding medical assistant Darlene, who provided wonderful care to Ruby and have been such an important part of her life for decades. Also many thanks to the staff of Northwood Home Care, their fabulous care providers and coordination team for their on-going care and compassion, as well as the outstanding doctors, nurses and staff at the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department who cared for Ruby during her time there in mid-October. Lastly the amazing staff at the Victoria General Hospital Radiation Oncology and Palliative Care Units whose professionalism, compassion and dedication were truly remarkable, and will never be forgotten.
Due in part to the current COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with Ruby’s wishes no funeral service will occur at this time. Cremation has taken place. Ruby’s cremains will be taken to Gander, NL at a later date for burial at The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery, a place where a piece of her heart has remained since 1972 with her beloved son, Bobby, and her late husband, Harry, who has rested there since 2007. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruby’s memory to the Palliative Care Inpatient Unit 7A, Victoria General Hospital, NSHA Central Zone, 1276 South Park Street, Halifax, NS B3H 2Y9.
