Obituary of Doris Leslie McIsaac
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 86, of Halifax. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris on October 28th, 2020 at Arbourstone Enhanced Care after a 4-year journey with dementia. Doris was born on April 3, 1934 in Halifax to the late, Herbert Leslie Beanlands and Violet Gertrude Beanlands (Morash) in Halifax.
Doris married the love of her life, Gordon (Champ) McIsaac on May 14th, 1955. She attended the Halifax Vocational School and worked outside of the home at Dictaphone until their only child, Kim, was born. Doris was a beautiful cook, baker and loved interior design. She passed these gifts on to her daughter and grandchildren. Doris and Champ loved to be social and had many friends and close family. Saturday nights were always spent at the Fireman’s Club in Halifax dancing the night away – and, wow, could they ‘jive’. Doris was also active in the Halifax Fire Department’s Ladies Auxilliary. When their grandchildren, Christopher and Meghan arrived they became the ‘apples’ of their eyes. Nan, as she was called by her grandchildren, taught Meghan how to become a beautiful cook/baker and Christopher inherited her determination and independence. Doris was a nurturing woman of great strength and had a deep love for her family including her sister, Joan’s, family. There were many fond and loving memories of family gatherings at Grand Lake and a few trips to PEI with both families.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Kim Leslie McDonah (Michael), her grandson Christopher Michael (Lisa) and their children Samantha and Hannah, and her granddaughter, Meghan Leslie Perry (Robert) and their children Thomas and Jack. She is also survived by her sister, Joan (Reg) Allen and their children, Reg, Susan (Robert), Janice (Geno), Tracey (Andy), Ginny (Don) and their families; her sisters, Carol (Greg) Simm and Sandra (Randy) Piercey and their families; and her brother John’s children, Jonathan and Kate. She is also survived by Her sister-in-law Margie (Jimmy) Fisher and Shirley Purcell and many neices and nephews on Gordon’s side of the family. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon and her brother John Herbert Beanlands.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Arbourstone for their exceptional kindness, care, and compassion. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family burial will be planned at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada, or any other charity of your choice.
