Age 78, Halifax, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2020, at his home in Halifax, NS. Richard was born in Sydney Mines, NS, he was the son of the late Richard F. Hall and the late Marguerite (MacNeil) Hall.
Richard’s life was guided by love, integrity, and generosity. He loved music, story-telling and had a keen interest in history, politics and sports. Above all Richard loved his family, and throughout his life they were his number one priority. He adored his wife, Christena who was his best friend and the love of his life, and who patiently cared for him during his decline due to congestive heart failure. A gifted story-teller, Richard regaled family and friends with his youthful exploits in Sydney Mines, spending summers at Greener’s beach, playing hockey and “jumping clampers” in the winter. After graduating from Notre Dame High School, Richard worked at the Sydney Mines Post Office. At the age of 20, he moved to Toronto where he worked for Mayflower Moving and Storage and Eaton’s, although he earned more playing hockey for the department store hockey team. Missing his family and friends, he returned to Cape Breton and worked for Trans-Canada Credit before beginning his career at the Bank of Nova Scotia. In 1977, he moved his family to Dartmouth where he became an assistant branch manager in Halifax. Opportunity knocked a few years later and Richard shifted gears to join Mutual Life (Sun Life) Insurance where he met and earned the respect and friendship of many. Community service was a guiding force in Richard’s life. He dedicated countless hours to many boards and volunteer activities. Richard’s love for his family is his lasting legacy.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 51 years, Christena (MacDougall); children, Judith (Alastair), Kenneth (Sonya), and Jennifer; as well as his adored grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Alexander, Christena, Matthew, and Gabriel.
