Age 81, of Halifax, passed away on October 14th, 2020 in Bedford. Born in London, England. He was the son of the late; Josephine Thow (Rice) and Wallace “Scottie” Thow. Bill started the Budget rent-a-car franchise in Atlantic Canada which launched his prestigious automobile career that spanned over thirty years. He was the coach of the Nova Scotia Sr. Men’s basketball team during the 70’s and 80’s cumulating in a National Championship. He is also a recognized member of the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid Leaf’s and Yankees fan and passionately cheered for them every year. Bill loved the thrill of travel and enjoyed numerous adventures with Weezie. During his late years he always looked forward to his Saturday mornings with the “boys from Bedford” where they would recount the “glory” days of their youth, embellishing the re-tells with each repetition. He was a fountain of useless knowledge due to his enthusiastic love of trivia most obtained by his compulsive need to read on the deck at Musquodoboit Harbour where he loved to watch “nothing”. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise (Pyne) Thow; daughters, Leeann Riley, Lisa (Ross) Harrington; brother, Norman Thow; grandchildren, Jack Riley, Katie Riley, Lexi Harrington, and William Harrington. He was predeceased by his children’s mother, Donna Thow. Due to covid-19 restrictions there will be a private family burial at a later date. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Ivany Place, for their wonderful care towards Bill during his stay. Donations can be made to, the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, or the Canadian Cancer Society of Nova Scotia in memory of Bill. Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J.
