Please accept the condolences of the entire Landrigan family. Blanche was one of the kindest people I have ever met. My family and I will never forget her many kindnesses to our mother, Mary Landrigan, during her long illness. When many friends chose not to visit Mom in her final months, Blanche and Derek were constants. Blanche often brought banana bread when Mom could still eat one of her favourites treats, then she brought fish chowder, another favourite, blending it in consideration of Mom's aphasia. I'll never forgot how Mom's eyes lit up the moment Blanche walked through the door or when she received a letter updating her on the goings on with Blanche and Derek's granddaughter Julia's latest goings on. Blanche was a kind, devoted and gentle person and I know she is sorely missed. The Yeadon family now has an angel in heaven, preparing the way. Our condolences go out to all of the Yeadon family. We would also like to thank Derek for being so kind to our father, Dr. Paul Landrigan, on his many visits with Blanche.

My condolences to Derek and family,
I met Blanche through writing classes and eventually became closer friends with her through a group of writers who came together in a writing group. Blanche's character came through in so many ways in our group: her love of laugher and humour, her enjoyment of a good tale well-told, and her ability to entertain and support others. Her stories of growing up in Newfoundland were memorable, and her enjoyment and encouragement of others' writing was wonderfully strong. Blanche was always asking for more details on a story, or more to be written. When hosting our monthly meetings, Blanche provided over-the-top refreshments and nibblies: she was the consummate hostess. Later, after our group's ten-year run had come to an end, Blanche continued to gather us (and our spouses) for an annual reunion that she hosted at her home. I think all of us writers felt as at home with Blanche as if we were a part of her extended family; she was our 'mother hen'. I feel so very privileged to have known Blanche and enjoyed her presence in my life. I will never forget her nor her infectious laugh. And, I believe, that somewhere out there Blanche is expecting me to get on with my stories and my life…she’s saying, “And so? What’s next? You need to do more!” Thank you, Blanche.

Dear Brad, Amanda and Derek,
Ron and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Blanche's passing. She was always such a bright light with a smile and a good word whenever we met, which wasn't often after you moved. And I never did get to take her up on her invitation to visit at the new place, near my home town. But I have such good memories of when Brad and Holly were small and then at SHSH. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Please accept our most Sincere Sympathy on your loss. - Mary & Ron (The Barker-Gilkies)
