PHOTO/LOGO Austin Gerard Snow Glace Bay Austin Gerard Snow of Glace Bay passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital, 3 South surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay on April 29, 1950, he was the son of the late Sam and Josephine (McDaniel) Snow of Lower Wallace Road. In Dad’s earlier years, he worked for Tops Grocery, A & W Sydney and was known as the famous Root Bear and St. Anne’s Bowling Alley in Glace Bay. Dad always had a vision of owning his own business and this would be the start of many to follow: Margie’s Convenience Deli, Austie’s Take Out and Pizza, New Aberdeen Laundromat and New Aberdeen Legion and the Pensioners Club for almost 25 years. He and Mom worked tirelessly, but loved every minute, greeting the dedicated customers everyday. Today, Mom and Dad are currently the owners of Union St. Deli Bakery specializing in pies and a diabetic line. Dad had a huge heart, big personality and was full of integrity, as kids, we always had someone on our sofa, our parents always provided a warm place to stay and a meal for anyone having troubles at home, not only people but animals too. He was an avid Blue Jays Fan. Austin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margie (Hawco); daughter, Shirley (Gerard Gouthro), Glace Bay, sons, Austin (Beau), Ottawa, Ont., Michael, Glace Bay, and chosen son, Eddie Tracey who was like his own; his four beautiful grandchildren, whom he adored, Ashley (Erin), Craig, Austin Ty, and Quinn.
