Obituary of Florence Jeanette Grant
Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanette Grant, age 76, on Sunday, September 13, 2020, surrounded by her loving children. Jeanette was the daughter of the late John B. and Florence (Stevens) Young.
Jeanette graduated from the Nova Scotia Teacher’s College ’62 and St. Francis Xavier University 1977/78. She worked as a Teacher for both the Eskasoni and the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board for 47 years before her retirement in 2009. Jeanette shared many wonderful memories about her countless students over the years.
Jeanette gave her full support in her children’s activities. She was an active executive member with Cape Breton Dorados Swim Team and Glace Bay Minor Hockey. She never missed a practice, game or commitment in her children’s lives.
Most recently, her time was spent with the Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioner’s Club. Jeanette was a devoted member of “the club”. She helped with running card games, looked after Sunday afternoon socials and Saturday night dances. Jeanette was the “go to” girl for the decorating needs of the hall. Jeanette joined the club in 2009 and was elected treasurer the following year. She remained in this position until her passing. Jeanette was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, working many hours preparing meals with her devoted members. These special ladies were more like sisters. She adored the time they spent together chatting and laughing over a cup of tea. Her presence at the club will be missed.
Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Jennifer (Stephen) Moore, Halifax, and Lorne (Alyson Sheppard), Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Mom is also known for her beloved role as Gammy to her 5 grandchildren Madelyn, Rylie, Bria, Nicholas and Caleb. Gammy enjoyed countless hours of reading, crafting, playing cards, and snuggling with her grandkids. Her grandchildren will miss their daily phone conversations with their Gammy.
Jeanette is predeceased by her brother John “Brother” Young, only several weeks ago. Jeanette is survived by her brother Robert Young, Mississauga, ON as well as her brother and sister in law, Allie and Imelda Grant, Sydney. Jeanette will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Her love, kindness, friendly smile and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation- Renal Dialysis Unit or the Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club.
