Obituary of John Maxwell Leadbetter

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John (Bud) Maxwell Leadbetter announce his passing on August 11th, 2018, at the age of 80, in his residence, Magnolia Continuing Care in Enfield. Bud was born in Glace Bay, to the late Maxwell and Rachael (MacDonald) Leadbetter. One of four children, Bud was referred to as “the favorite son” by his mom, being the only son. Bud joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at a young age, where he enjoyed 25 years of service with the Air Traffic Control Division. After retiring from there, Bud joined the Canadian Coast Guard for the next 16 years with Vessel Traffic Services. Bud always enjoyed a game of pickup hockey or ball in his younger years, but loved hitting the ice or field with his own children and grandchildren. Whether coaching or watching, he always had something to say. Saturday nights were spent with family watching “Hockey Night in Canada”, Bud loved Don Cherry and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bud always enjoyed a good round of golf and would challenge anyone to get a game in. He loved spending time with family and cooking up a spread. Bud will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years Raylene (Hennick); sisters, Esther (Ron), Myrna, Bev (Alister), brother in law Ron Hennick; children, Brenda (Steven), Paul (Michele), Jason (Jackie); grandchildren, Jenn (John), Mike (Samantha), Michelle, Dawson, Brianna, Jenna, Brooklyn; great grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Colten, Ali; nieces, nephews, and his little fur baby Oscar. Poppy loved his babies, there was no prouder grandfather than him, Bud was predeceased by his brothers in law Ken Hennick, Fred Davies, and his sister in law Betty Hennick. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford. (902-835-4212) In accordance with Bud’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. A very special thank you to the caring people at the Magnolia Continuing Care Community-your love and support to Bud and his family was so appreciated.
