Obituary of Kenneth John Gannon
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, husband, Papa, great Papa, brother, uncle, and friend. Ken was born on October 11, 1938 in Halifax. He was predeceased by his mother Viola Gannon (nee Saulnier), father John F. Gannon, biological father Dick Slaunwhite, sister Patricia Chambers, and sister-in-law Louise. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Marie [Raymond], sons Shaun [Tracey], Scott [Tammy], grandsons Zac [Holly] and Kaelan [Tiffany], great granddaughter Serena, grandson Cameron, and his one and only granddaughter Caitlyn. Also, his siblings Eddie [Marion], John, Eleanor Parker [Bruce], Linda Harrie, Fran Boutilier [Barry], Jimmy [Cathy], Frank [Jean], Rick [Suzanne], and his many nieces and nephews. His many interests included Pool, Darts, Baseball, Golf, Tai Chi, working out at the gym, and watching his sons and grandkids play their sports. He was a constant volunteer and remained active well after retirement. From coaching and managing minor hockey teams to helping out at Lions Club dinners, golf events and many other activities it seemed everyone knew Ken/Kenny/Bongo. His nickname “Bongo” originated from his many close friends while working at Canada Post as a Letter Carrier. He was previously in the Canadian Army (Militia) and worked as a clerk at Department of National Defence (Halifax Dockyard). Always the life of the party or gathering, everyone that met him loved him and he always had a way of making people laugh. Donations may be made to the eye clinic at the IWK, the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice; no flowers please. Visitations will be held at TJ Tracey Funeral Home Tuesday September 1st, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm.
