John Lloyd passed away peacefully at the Berkeley Halifax on August 10th, 2018, surrounded by family. John was predeceased in May 2018 by his wife of 55 years, Shirley (Pike), his parents Arthur and Nellie Lloyd, and siblings Charles, Daisy, Frank, and Peter. He leaves to mourn daughters Elizabeth (Morgan) Peat, Toronto, and Bronwen (Roy) Lloyd, Halifax; and son Peter, Vancouver; grandchildren Bronwyn and Johnathan Peat, Dylan and Cameron Lloyd, and Lily and Théo Bourgeois; sister in law Doreen (Pike) Carter, Botwood, NFLD, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of friends. John was born February 25th, 1927 in Tettenhall, England, the youngest of five siblings. In 1945 at the age of 18, he joined the British Army as an Infantryman with the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry, and served for 3 years in the later days of the war, including postings to Palestine, Egypt, and Cypress. Following his military service, John apprenticed and received certification as a professional plumber. He then spent 3 years working in New Zealand. In 1953, John followed his beloved sister Daisy, and emigrated to Gander, NFLD, where he established a very successful plumbing enterprise. During the growth period in that area at the time, John successfully bid on contracts all over central NFLD and in Labrador. He was also heavily involved in other business interests, property investments, and charitable efforts in the Gander area. John loved to travel and experience other cultures. He was always keenly interested in the news of the day, and was a voracious reader. He was also an avid gardener, vegetables in particular-he took special pride in his gardens at Sandy Cove, NFLD, and in Haliburton Hills. Arrangements have taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists.
