Long-Joan Elizabeth (Betty) age 77 of Halifax passed away Aug. 10 at the QE2 Infirmary with her childrenby her side. Mom worked as a nurse’s aid at Fairview Villa for a number of years and also provided private home-care for seniors before her retirement. She was a proud Mother and Grandmother. Nanny Betty enjoyed hearing about the antics her great grandchildren would get into. Mom was an avid bingo player who enjoyed her bingo bus trips to N.B. and Maine. She looked forward to her trips with her bingo buddies and was often the instigator of practical jokes. She also enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rhoda (Westhaver) Muise. She was predeceased by her husband Murray Grant Long, brothers David Muise and Thomas Muise, grandson Jeffrey Hanson brothers in law Carl Currie and Gordon Long. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Don) Hanson and Richard (Karen) Long , sister Barbara Currie, sisters in law Mary Muise, Norma Muise and Lois Long , brother in law Paul (Sandra) Long . Grandchildren Laura Hanson (Michael Delaney), Brian Hanson, Deahna (Jeffrey) Hanson, Bradley Long, Nicole Long, Peter Crewe (Megan O’Brien-Crewe), Great Grandchildren, Bennett, Levi, Dylan, Nash, Noah, Arina, Gabe and Isaac. Many nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Mom’s friend and partner in crime Betty Verge for being there whenever needed, caregiver Christine MacDonald who loved her like a Mom and her wonderful neighbors for their love and support. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
