Helen Frances Burgess Sydney It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Helen Burgess, age 64, on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John Burgess and Roseline (Drinkwater) Burgess Currie. Helen devoted her life to raising her daughters in Broughton, where she loved to garden, listen to country music, cooking great meals, baking lemon squares and apple pies and always loved having a house full of kids. She enjoyed spending time with Marjorie and her bible studies with Alfie and Violet Kimm. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson Jace, who was her entire world, shopping with Amanda and Tara, going for long drives out the country. In her younger years, she worked at General Instruments, and later received her diploma and was employed as a homecare worker with New Dawn. Helen is survived by her greatest accomplishments, her pride and joy, her daughters, Amanda Bateman (Edward MacEachern), Tara Bateman (Aaron Hickey); her precious grandson, Jace Edward MacEachern; the father of her children, Ernie Bateman; sisters, Marjorie (Jimmy) Fields, Ann Rosta, and Doreen Schaffner; brothers, Jack (Mona) Burgess, Roy (Joan) Burgess; special niece, Joanne, who was like a daughter, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, John and Roseline, who she had a special bond with, she was predeceased by daughter, Vanessa Marie in infancy, stepfather, Michael Currie; sisters, Hope, Barbara, Dolly and Sharon, brothers, Stanley, George, Danny and Richard.
