Alison Anne Lillian Chipman, age 64, of Dartmouth, NS, passed away on June 25th, 2020 at the Halifax Hospice. Born in Yarmouth, NS, she was the daughter of the late Donald Lewis Chipman and Margaret Allison (Ripley) Chipman both of Yarmouth. Alison will always be remembered for her generosity. She loved to be in the kitchen baking bread and preparing meals and treats for her many friends. Her delicious brown bread was always in high demand at any function or sale. She loved to have guests for dinner and with her sharp wit and keen sense of humour kept everyone entertained. Alison was an active member of and volunteer at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Halifax. The UU Church played a major part of her life both during and on her return to Nova Scotia after her career as a book editor in the US. For many years she was an active member of their church choir. Alison was a keen supporter of gay rights and a proud participant in the Halifax Gay Pride Parade. In her final years Alison took great comfort in her close friendship with Catherine (Sass) Minard of Dartmouth. In addition to their love of cats, they enjoyed reading together and their highly competitive “Skip-Bo” card games. Alison is survived by her brothers Robert (Glenda), Deerfield, NS and Stephen (Mary), Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her sister Donna Cunningham, Yarmouth. Alison had many nieces and nephews and will be sadly missed by them. Alison dearly loved her cats. They were her pride and joy and constant companions. In lieu of flowers she has asked that memorial donations be made to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter, Dartmouth A celebration of her life will be held at the Universalist Unitarian Church in Halifax at a future time when the pandemic rules allow. For immediate family and close friends a green burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS. A very special thank-you to the staff at the Halifax Hospice who helped make Alison’s final days peaceful and comfortable.
