Obituary of Lis Banfield

Lis, that wonderful Danish/Canadian woman, wife, mother and friend has passed on to the great Vicking Heaven called "Valhalla" at 74 years. She is survived by husband, Dave Banfield; sister, Gulli Annie; children, Anna Marie (Craig), David (Karen), Michael; and stepchildren, Sandy and Susan Banfield; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She had many careers from working at BIO, to owner of Dartmouth Funeral Home and in later years she taught online educations classes to the professors at MSVU. At 40 years old she returned to SMU and received a BA (Summa Cum Laude). She loved to travel back to the Nordic countries and to Germany and Austria. She was the past president of the Scandinavian Club and arranged many outings. She was an avid knitter and held annual knitting meets in the Halifax Public Gardens. As a young woman, she even once drove a stock car in the "Powder Puff" derby. She was always self-challenging and definitely the total family Matriarch for all. Cremation has taken place, any donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
