Obituary of Ado Castellani
Please share a memory of Ado to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our family treasure has passed away at the age of 84 on June 13, 2020. Ado was born in Redenzicco, Italy on June 6, 1936, to parents Iolanda (Masotti) and Giobatta Castellani.
Ado often told the story of how he left Italy to come to Canada at a young age in search of better opportunities. He had fifty dollars in his pocket and spoke no English when he arrived through Ellis Island on his way to Toronto in 1956. For his first month in Canada, he relied on the generosity of the Italian community to help him start his new life.
Work is what brought Ado to Halifax where he met his wife, Morva (Briffett). They were married and eventually settled in Bedford, where they raised their son Michael.
Through hard work, Ado had many successful years owning and operating his own company, Morall Construction. His craftsmanship was widely respected and can be seen throughout many areas of Halifax like Papermill and Kingswood. He was proud to be actively involved in the Fogolar Furlan Association of Halifax (an Italian organization to honor his homeland of Friuli). He could be found each Friday night at the Italian Club playing cards with lifelong friends.
In retirement, Ado lived life to its fullest, travelling, fishing, gardening, making wine and spending time at his cottage in Noel. Ado and family had many happy times there while sitting around a table full of friends, wine and good food playing cards. Everyone loved when Ado’s signature cheese came out, and the evening wasn’t over until he sang.
His grandchildren were his heart and joy. They were the people he loved and was most proud of. Poppy’s life will live on in the many stories and memories he leaves with them.
Loved ones that will forever miss Ado are; his wife Morva, Hammonds Plains; Son Michael (Cheryl), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren; Bhreaugh (Matthew), Calgary; Adam, Halifax; Catherine, Hammonds Plains; his sister Antionietta , Coseano Italy; and many nieces and nephews.
Ado was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Francesco, Silvano, Antonino and dear friend Sergio.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jill Robertson, for the care she provided.
