Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Hugh Campbell (Bob), 100, long-time resident of Kempt Head, Boularderie Island passed away in Halifax on June 8th, 2020. With his family history in Cape Breton, Bob moved there from Boston after completing his World War II service in the American Navy. One of his many good fortunes was meeting Renee, the love of his life. Together they raised their family on a dairy farm at the point of Kempt Head; everyday having a beautiful view of the Bras d’Or Lakes. During Bob’s life, he loved driving on every road in Cape Breton, boating on the Bras d’Or Lakes, collecting petrified wood which is now on display in various museums, and becoming a poet and song writer. Family and neighbours were important to Bob, he appreciated hearing every story and getting to know everyone. Predeceased by his beloved Renee, Bob is lovingly remembered by his children, Robert (Debbie), Toronto; Donald (Anne), Halifax ; Judith, Halifax; three grandchildren, Michael, Heather (Darcy), Carolyn (Daniel); and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Lauren, Keira, and Connor. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, and his many friends both in Kempt Head and Halifax. The Campbell family would like to thank the staff at the Camp Hill Veterans Home, where Bob lived for the last three years, for their outstanding care and compassion. Thanks also goes to Bernadette, Mollie and to many neighbours for their warmth, generosity, and support while he resided on the farm. A celebration of Bob’s life will be planned for a future date. To mark his love of nature, donations can be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, 36 Eglinton Avenue West, Suite 400 Toronto, Ontario M4R 1A1 or the charity of your choice.
