Herbert 'Herbie' Somerton Herbert Somerton, age 76,of Glace Bay passed away suddenly on May 7th,2020 at home. Herbie was a wonderful husband, father, poppy, brother, uncle and friend. He was the son of the late Harold and Olive (Grant) Somerton and the husband of the late Florence (Shaw) Somerton. Herbie was a retired Coal Miner who worked underground for more than 30 years. He enjoyed meeting his friends Albert, Dougie, Wayne, Porky, Butch, Gerry and many others in the parking lot of the Hub Amateur Athletic Club. He was a long time member of the club and proudly held a janitorial position for several years. One of his favourite pastimes was scratching tickets. He was also an avid Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays fan. Herbie always had Milk Bones ready for the family dogs when they visited. Herbie will be sadly missed by his children, Darlene (Darin) White, Michael (Cynthia) Somerton, and Cindy Somerton; grandchildren,Courtney (Greg),Taylor (Colin), Morgan (Jesse), Breanna (Brandon), Hunter and also Hunter’s Dad, Robin Krszwda; brothers, Gary (Kathy), Jimmy (Theresa); sisters, Sheila Gillis and Darlene MacLean; sister-in-law, Linda Allison (Barry); brother-in-law, Andrew Shaw and several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Joan MacIntyre, Sally Christie and Linda MacNeil; brothers, Robert, Henry, Raymond and John. In honouring Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery. A memorial service will take place at a later date under the care of T.J.
