Saddened to hear of Doug’s passing....I only met him once in Halifax when we went see him being honoured as a boat builder. My husband, Russell( part owner of AFTheriault) had fond memories of him. When the two companies got together, Russell worked with him and they developed a strong bond. He lived a long successful life.. May he Rest In Peace.

To the family of my old friend Doug my heartfelt sympathy and condolences in the loss of your father. Doug was a colourful and animated story teller particularly those of the sea and boats - a one of the kind individual whom one never forgets. I remember in particular the days of his wooden "Nomads" and "Privateers" such as: Wandrian and the beautiful day spent sailing on her in Mahone Bay circa. 1976 (where we first met son Kevin and Maxine) and years later his beloved Gray Starling. I remember Doug telling Cecil Robertson, Les Currie, myself and others, the origin of the name of that vessel (Grace Darling). As I write this, I am looking at a personally autographed copy of his book "Confessions of a Boatbuilder" - a thoroughly informative and entertaining read which I keep proudly in my bookcase. Best wishes and fair winds. - Carl Goodwin

Lynda: when I read the column in Monday’s paper about Covid victims, naming Doug Rosborough, I figured he must be your father. And tracing through the obituary column brought me to this site. It’s a sad and sobering event, to lose a parent, and especially during these dark days we are having here in Nova Scotia. Reading about Doug’s mother Grace Darling reminded me of the wonderful day when you took a bunch of rowdies from the film festival on her namesake boat, Gray Starling. I recall the great affection you had for your family. I wish all of you well, and condolences,
Megan Williams

We wish to extend our sincere condolences to the Rosborough family in the passing of your father and family patriarch . I remember Doug in the early days when he was a full time maritime tel employee and a full time boat builder, many long and productive days. He loved the eastern shore and spent much time here building wooden ships for clients around the world, always taking time for conversation, lengthy stories and a laugh.
We honour this special man and hope you all keep the tradition and human values going.
God bless,
Lantz and Mary Siteman

The water flows! Doug was my hero. He worked the graveyard shift at MT&T, I workd the other two nights for many years. I was his student. We repaired engines, repaired boats, Ross Evan's and I helped installed engines and electronics. Ross still lives in Nova Scotia.
Doug and I were trailering a log, soon to be mast, from the South Shore one night and at 1 in the morning I guided him as he pushed the log back on the trailer against the monument in the center of town.
Ross and I were with Captain Holder on his Schooner towing a Schooner from NFLD for Doug when we experienced 88 mph winds and 22 ft waves. We very nearly ran head long into Cape Smokey that night.
I learned so much from Doug, how to stay calm was one thing. He was an artist at it.
I ran away, spent time with NASCAR and as captain of a converted trawler on an archeological dive in Port Royal, Roatan Island, Honduras.
I live in the ghost town of Las Vegas (empty due to pandemic). I sold my boat after 24 years last November. Never missed a year without thoughts of Doug. Words cannot express the admiration I have for him. We are all better for knowing that man!
