Obituary of Charlie Yates

Yates, Charles ‘Charlie’ Fred 1940-2020 It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Charles “Charlie” Yates, age 79, of Glace Bay on March 30, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Charlie was the son of the late Harry and Annie (McKay) Yates. Born in Glace Bay, Charlie was a miner at Numbers 2, 12 and 26 Collieries. He then moved to Ontario and worked various jobs, which included working for Metro Parks for 25 years until his retirement. Charlie moved back to his home in Cape Breton and began collecting Scrap as a hobby. Charlie is survived by his wife of 43 years Sherry (Lacey), sons Chuck, Karl, Jim and David; daughters Rytta, Teresa (Tim) and Debbie; grandchildren MaryAnn, Christine, Michelle, Dori, Michael, Linda, Jennifer,and Samantha; Great-grandchildren Rylan (Papa’s girl), and many more grand and great-grandchildren; special niece Jo-Ann and many more nieces and nephews; Brother Ron (Sheila), Ontario; sisters Doreen (Leo), Detroit and Carol Ann, Ontario. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Evelyn, Sandra, Mable, Drucella and Thelma; brother’s Garfield, Robert, David and Henry. Cremation has taken place.
