Obituary of Carl Douglas Doubleday

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 90 of Bedford, passed away peacefully in West Hants Regional Hospital on March 31, 2020. He was a son of Herbert and Lillian (Reid) Doubleday of Halifax. He was a firefighter for 32 years with the Halifax Fire Department, retiring in 1990. In recent years he enjoyed sharing stories of his time in the fire department with those around him. When not working for the fire department, Carl worked as steamfitter/plumber. In his later years, Carl and his wife were building managers at numerous apartment buildings in Bedford where they built a strong sense of community within the buildings. He was always finding something to do around the buildings to keep himself busy. His sense of humour and love for his family was well-known. There was never a dull moment with Dad, right to the end. The things he said to make you laugh, the dementia could not take away. Carl was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (Joyce). He is survived by his sons, Kerry (Rose), Halifax; Kevin (Leslie), Bedford; daughter, Shauna (Paul), West Arichat; grandchildren, Ryan and Brianne; sister, Colleen Rafuse. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Harold "Harry", Gerald and Percy; sisters, Dorothy Bellefontaine and Shirley Snair. A special thank you to Evelyn at Northwood Homecare, whose visits were greatly enjoyed by Carl. Also thank you to the nurses at West Hants Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days. There will be no service or visitation. Cremation has been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made a charity of choice.
