It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Michael Joseph (Mick) McKinnon, age 72, on March 31, 2020 at the Glace Bay General Hospital, Glace Bay.
Mick was the son of the late Michael and Cavell (Murphy) McKinnon. Born and raised in Glace Bay, Mick lived most of his life in Dominion. He spent 31 years working with Devco as a miner and a millwright at No’s. 20 and 26 Collieries, working most of his career at Lingan mine and eventually retiring from Phalen mine.
Through the years, Mick was an avid dart player; and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, his real passion was cars. After his retirement, Mick spent countless hours in his back yard garage repairing and rebuilding cars; for himself, for his children and for his friends.
Mick is survived by his wife Angela (Kendall), his daughters Michelle (Anthony Ferreira) and Johnna (Wade Brewer) and son Michael; his grandchildren Chantel and John Michael Higgins, Anthony (Kim) Boudreau, Tommy and Jersey Ferreira; his sisters Debbie (Kenny Dean) and Eleanor (Bert Kublek) as well as his in-laws Jeanne (Vic), John (Dorothy), Peter (Donna) and David (Philomena).
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters Jeanette Clost and Kathleen Burchell, and one brother in infancy.
Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will follow at a later date under the care and guidance of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199.
