It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hughena Gertrude Hunt (nee Pittman) announce her peaceful passing March 7, 2020 at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax, NS at the age of 73 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her son Stephen (Kerry Huycke); daughter Joanne (Keith) MacDonald; grandchildren Brandon, Sarah and Kailey MacDonald; her father Roland Pittman; sisters Donna (Norm) Hiscock and Darlene (Rod) Roberts and sister-in-law Fay (Wayne) Mulrooney; Nieces Bonita Arns, Jenna and Hailey Pittman; Nephews George, Rob, Ron and Stephen Hunt, Ron Arns, Jason Hiscock and Sheldon Roberts. And many other special family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years Stephen Selwyn Hunt; mother Mary Pittman, stepmother Rita Pittman; brothers Roland and Jeffery Pittman; sister-in-law Flora Hunt, Vivian Mitchell, Doris Arns, and Rachel Hunt; brothers-in-law Fred Arns and Edward (Ned) Hunt; and special grandmother Susannah Pittman. Hughena was a graduate of the Grace Hospital in St. John’s, NL and worked as an RN at the Wabush Mines Clinic where everyone in the town knew her as a sweet, gentle, kind hearted nurse. She was an avid knitter, with almost every baby born in Wabush having a sweater she had knit. Hughena always remained active with her fitness classes, cross country skiing, skidooing and even Judo classes. Hughena never let Huntington Disease define her, she remained positive and determined every single day right until the end. The family will be receiving family and friends at The Church of the Good Shepperd in Norris Point, NL on Sunday March 15, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The memorial service will take place on Monday March 16, 2020 at 2pm with the Rev. Wilhelmena Green officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Hughena’s name to Huntington Society of Canada, JDRF of Canada or The Church of the Good Shepperd Building Fund.
