It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Kevin” Dunn, age 67, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Kevin passed away surrounded by family on Friday, March 6,2020 at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Dunn.
Kevin was a member of Branch 78 Legion, Dominion for 30+ years. He called BINGO and was involved in many of the legion’s activities. He worked for Devco for 29 years, mainly in the supplies warehouse. Above all, Kevin loved spending time with his family, and he was idolized by his two special grandchildren. Kevin loved magic and any kind of gadget, always trying to figure out how things worked. He was a very kind man, nice to everyone. He would do anything in the world he could to help any person in need. All who knew him loved him dearly.
Kevin is survived by his soul mate and partner Alison, and their children Dave (Tiffanie), Allan and Alexandra; his two precious grandchildren Dominic and Naomi. Also left to mourn Kevin’s passing are his siblings Neil, Lloyd (Thelma), Wynne (Pat), Barry (Susan), Kerry (Michelle), Laurie (Michael), Layne (Darren), Lindsay (Shelly), and his many in-laws. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Special mention of his best friend Norm Mugford (and wife Clara) with whom he and Alison shared many wonderful and fun adventures.
Besides his parents Kevin was predeceased by sisters Maureen, Marie, brother-in-law Edwin MacDonald and nephew James MacDonald.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Glace Bay General Hospital as well as all the Palliative Care staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Dr.Pahil for all the care and compassion Kevin received over the last 10 years.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Friday,March 13, 2020 from 2-3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St. Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held after the service at Branch 78 legion, Neville St., Dominion.
