Lloyd Byron Layes Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Lloyd Byron Layes, age 78, Monday, March 2,2020 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, New Waterford. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Lloyd and Christine (Jones) Layes. Lloyd was a member of (CAF) Black Watch. Lloyd spent 40 years working in the mines, Broughton, No. 20 and 36 years in the mines in Grande Cache, Alberta. He was a past president of Branch 278 Legion, Grande Cache, Alberta. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, travelling and going to Bingo with his wife Alma. Lloyd is survived by his children, sons, Jamie (Jody), Grande Cache, AB and Andy, Saskatoon, AB; daughters Brenda, Edmonton, AB and Cheryl (Eddy), Glace Bay, NS; three brothers Gerald, Edmonton, AB, George(Patsy), Glace Bay, Marcel Grande Cache; brother-in-law, Andy (Yvonne) Boozan, Glace Bay several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Alma (Boozan) Layes; infant son, Jamie Lloyd, brother, Gordon Layes, mother and father–in-law, Jim and Jenny Boozan as well as several brothers and sisters–in-law and relatives. Interment will take place Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A special thank you to Doug Royal for your kindness and help to Lloyd.
