James Angus “Jim” Anderson
Age 75, of Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2020 in Halifax, surrounded by his five daughters and Vena, his loving wife of 55 years. Born in 1944, Jim was a son of Angus and Janet (Collier) Anderson. He was a communications technician with MT&T for 30 years until his retirement in 1993.
Jim had a passion for building, flying (and crashing) remote-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Cape Breton RC Modellers and enjoyed the kinship with his friends from the club. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in North Sydney. Jim enthusiastically helped his daughters with science experiments during their school years, especially anything that blew up. He taught them their first chords on guitar, passing on the gift of music to the next generation. Jim enjoyed many hours around the campfire at “The Land” with the whole family - playing music, raising a glass and creating mischief.
Jim is survived by his wife Vena (Gavinna Chadwick), and daughters Kim Guthro (Bruce), Teri (Luc Erjavec), Vena (Ray Moorehead), Melanie Taylor (Kris) and Kristen (Justin Cooney). He leaves behind 14 cherished grandchildren who will miss Gramps and his witty one-liners: Dylan and Jodi Guthro, Annika, Jamey and Genevieve Erjavec, Keegan and Maria Christink, Mikaela Russell (Richard), Jenna Miller (Liam MacArthur), Jacquelyn, Michael and Joel Taylor, Nico Ivey and Skylar Cooney. He will be fondly remembered by Bryan Christink, Brad Miller, and Suvane Ivey. He also leaves behind 3 great-granddaughters Mira and Everly Russell, and Ellie MacArthur. Jim is survived by sisters Janet Glenham and Liz Theriault (Freeman), brother George (Valerie), and numerous nieces and nephews to whom he was “Uncle Jimmy”. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Gord Glenham, and best friend Gordon MacDonald.
Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the QEII Foundation, Palliative Care Unit. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 2 from 6-9pm at the Armdale Yacht Club in Halifax.
