Amelia Campbell
April 21, 1939 - Feb. 10, 2020
Glace Bay
With sadness we share the news of our mother's passing, and say thank you to her friends with whom she enjoyed spending time. Amelia was predeceased by her two brothers, Bill and Westley. Amelia was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1939 when the world was in turmoil and Canada had just entered the war. She grew up in the Hub, took piano lessons that she didn’t enjoy, and spent time outside with friends being social, which she enjoyed thoroughly. Amelia loved to talk about this later in life, reminiscing fondly of escapades, adventures and the independence of wandering with friends. She passed this lively spirit on to her family, getting them to be independent and self-reliant with a quick and engaging wit.
Amelia was married to Stephen ‘Gin’ Campbell at 18 and they lived on 10th street with daughters Charlene, Sylvia ‘Tunny’, Cathy, Kim, and son Stephen. The house was the scene of many interesting characters and stories, all lively, all interesting, and all part of life around Number 2.
Amelia enjoyed the many people she met while working at HomeCare, relaying stories about the different people she would meet during her working day. The last six years of Amelia's life were at Acadia House in New Waterford where she enjoyed talking to everyone she encountered on her daily walks, having lively conversations and not staying in one spot too long. She especially enjoyed these encounters as it reminded her of being outside after school in the Hub, meeting many different people and having as many conversations to match.
Nanny will be missed by her grandchildren Holly, Brett, Marcy, Sean, Liam, Hannah and Colton. Amelia was also fortunate to see Annika, her first great-grandchild, recently turn one year old.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020 with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
