Obituary of Darrel Glendon Elliott
Please share a memory of Darrel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Darrel Glendon Elliott, of Fletchers Lake, Nova Scotia passed away on February 8th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at the QEII.
Darrel was born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia to Irma and Glendon Elliott on November 8th, 1947. He worked for the federal government for 33 years, and was president of his local chapter of the GCIU. Darrel had a genuine love of life, loved people, and was always very curious to find out more about their lives. He remembered every story that he was told. He enjoyed spending time with his family, walking dogs, and was an avid sports lover. He rarely missed his children’s, and later his grandchildren’s sports games.
He was a very active member in his community coaching many of his children's sports teams. Darrel was also the founding member of Suburban soccer in the Fall River area, which has grown into what is now Suburban FC. He was a Cub and Scouts leader, loved gardening, and enjoyed fashioning new contraptions to keep the deer and rabbits away. He was a great athlete and had a friendly but competitive nature. He loved playing many sports, especially as a member of the Sackville Panthers, including broomball, softball, football, and golf. He fancied himself the king of crokinole, spoons, crib, stratomatic, and sergeant major - though this is disputed by some.
Darrel is survived by his wife Cheryl, his three children Michael, Scott (Kate), Denise (Mark), three grandchildren Madisyn, Haley, and Noah, his sister Renata (Herbie) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Fall River Fire Department, the paramedics, and staff at the ICU who fought to save his life.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Wellington Fire Hall on Sunday February 16th, 2-5 pm. A tribute to Darrel will begin at 2:30. “Those who liked him, liked him a lot”
