Jean Marjorie ‘Toots’ Miller Glace Bay Jean Marjorie ‘Toots’ Miller, age 91, passed away peacefully at Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay on February 6, 2020. She was the daughter of the late John and Euphemia (McCuish) Burns of Brickyard Road, Albert Bridge. Her parents gave her the nickname ‘Toots’ when she was just a child. Jean moved to Glace Bay when she was 15 years old, renting a room in the Sterling, and worked at Gordon’s Store. While a member of the Young People’s organization, she met her love, Billy and they married staying together for 64 years. In addition to Gordon’s, she was employed at Gillis’ Store on Reserve Street, where she met everyone in Glace Bay. Toots loved the Mira, from her childhood days, learning how to swim by jumping off the wharf on the Brickyard Road to swim out to the rowboat and in her later years, travelling to Mira Park for picnics or camping with Billy and Timmy. Finally, her senior years were spent at the bungalow on the Brickyard with Billy and her grandchildren, Matthew and Dani. After retirement, Billy and Toots travelled to Florida every year with George and Betty, as well as other trips to Hawaii and Barbados. She loved dancing and skating, which she enjoyed to an old age. No one left Toots house with an empty stomach. Her favorite question was “what did you have for lunch”, better be met with a good answer or you were given lunch and fresh baked cookies. Toots was the last surviving member of her immediate family, predeceased by her husband, Billy, her parents, her siblings, Danny, Annie, Alexis, Neil, Robert, Fraser, Jimmy, Alma and Tina. Jean is survived by her son Tim; grandchildren, Danielle and Matthew (Martha) and her great grandson, Marcus. Her family would like to thank the staff at Taigh Na Mara for her care during her time there. There will be a memorial service on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Alison Etter officiating, at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
