Michael 'Duncan' McNeil
1942-2020
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Michael ‘Duncan’ McNeil, age 77 of Glace Bay on January 26, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. Duncan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Bessie; his sister Esther and brother-in-law, Howard MacDonald. Born in Glace Bay September 7, 1942 and lived there his entire life.
Duncan joined the Royal Canadian Army, he serve 1961-1964 and had a career in construction as a surveyor for 30 years before retiring. Duncan will be missed by his wife, Marcella of 54 years; his daughters, Shauna (Blair) MacNeil, Moncton, NB, Janice and Pam (Dale) Moore both of Glace Bay; his grandchildren, who called him Poppy, Mitchelle (Lena) MacNeil, Jewel and Kayla; his nieces, Lillian, Elizabeth, Lilia and Stacey, his goddaughter, Tracey, Heather and Grace; his nephews, Mark and Brad; as well as a verys special cousin Dean Walsh, Nfld and many other cousins; a special friend of the family, Debbie Thomas.
Dad was a family man, an avid Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. O’Brien, Dr. McInnis, the nurses and 4C at the CBRH, nurses of 3 South GBH and Palliative Care nurses while at home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 1,2020 from 11- 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 1 pm all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). A reception will follow the service.
