Obituary of Valerie Ann Smith
Please share a memory of Valerie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Valerie Ann Smith, 67, of Halifax passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22 at the Hospice Halifax after a long courageous battle with liver disease.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Carrie (MacDonald) and Karl Smith.
She grew up in Seabright but resided in Halifax most of her life. She began her career with the Provincial Tax Commission, later moving to Blue Cross-Medavie where she was employed for the majority of her life. She enjoyed her job immensely, particularly the many lifelong friends she met there.
She was a Valentine right from the start. She was a shy, kind and selfless lady who was always willing to help others. She also had many talents including hairdressing, knitting, needlework and making Xmas crafts to name but a few. She was well known for her love of everything Christmas and her apartment was always decorated beautifully that time of year. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed signing with her family. In her younger years she also loved dancing, which is how she met her lifelong partner.
She is survived by partner of many years, Harold (Ernie) Williams; sister, Dorothy (Wayne); brother, Dennis; stepsons, Mark and Darryl Williams. She will be sadly missed by her little dog, Koda, who she loved dearly. She is also survived by special Aunt Patsy (MacDonald) Boutilier and by beloved cousin, Cheryl (Sherrie) Mowat. During her long and difficult illness Sherri was selfless in her support and assistance and the family will be forever grateful to her. Val will also be remembered by some of her best friends, including Isabel (Izzy), Colleen, Patsy, Cheryl, Lorna, Ethel and Jessie to name but a few, as well as many cousins.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date. The family would, in particular, like to thank Dr. McLean and Dr. Diab and the wonderful staff at Hospice Halifax for their care of Val. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Val’s memory to the Canadian Liver Foundation or to the Hospice Halifax where Val ended her days in comfort and peace.
You are with the angels now sweet sister.
