Patricia Anne ‘Patsy’ MacEachern
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts our family announces the passing of our loving sister, aunt, grandaunt, granddaughter, cousin and friend Patricia Anne “Patsy” MacEachern. Patsy passed away peacefully at the Critical Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 21,2020 surrounded by her family, including her devoted sister, best friend and “guardian angel” Jeannie .
Patsy was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School, the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital School of Nursing, and was employed as a kind and dedicated LPN at St. Joseph Hospital in Glace Bay, the RK MacDonald Guest Home in Antigonish, as well as having cared for a number of private patients until her retirement.
Patsy was our family historian with an incredible mind for remembering events, dates and stories from past generations. Patsy might be best described as a kind and loving soul, who had the gift to teach those around her, especially her siblings, the virtue of “slowing down to smell the roses”. Patsy was always thrilled by a chance meeting with a deer in the woods, or when she saw a glorious shooting star at her beloved East Bay. Patsy loved nothing more than to watch the smiles and listen to the laughter of her many nieces and nephews. Patsy so enjoyed laughing and bantering with anyone who had the courage to try and match her wonderful sense of humor. It was these experiences Patsy considered to be life’s most important treasures and she held all such memories very close to her heart
Patsy was the eldest daughter of John and Mary (MacDonald) MacEachern, Glace Bay. She is survived by sisters Doreen (Mike) Burke Halifax, NS; Elizabeth (David) Raniseth, Glace Bay NS; Phyllis Jackson (Ron) Summerside, PEI; Jean, Glace Bay; brothers: John Roy, (Nancy), Berwick, NS; Neil (Mary) Sackville, NB.
Besides her parents, Patsy was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Joseph and nephew Neil Brennan MacEachern in infancy. Patsy was adored by all her nephews and nieces as well as grandparents, uncles and aunts past and present.
Patsy’s request was for there to be no visitation, to be cremated, with a graveyard service to be scheduled at a time when weather conditions would better suite family travel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank the management and staff of Seaview Manor for Patsy’s care over the last three years. Special thanks to the doctors and staff from the CCU and Palliative Care units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who worked together to ensure Patsy’s wish for a peaceful ending was realized.
