Condolences to the family. Michael was a brilliant man who loved life and was caring and kind. Aside from making the best martinis at his annual martini open he would solve algebraic equations over the phone even when my daughter forgot to include an x. He shared his books openly even a rare find such as The Archeology of Knowledge. He will always be in our hearts

My condolences to the family. Michael taught me calculus and number theory (in the late 1970s and
early 1980s). Along with Fred Chipman, he mentored the Math Problem Solving group, of which I was a member. He was a great teacher of mathematics, knowledgeable and caring, and a kind and gentle soul.
