As a child my grandparents lived on Maxie Street and Nick’s store was at the bottom in the early 2000s. I remember going there every Friday with my toonie, he was always a pleasant, generous and kind man. And never forgot a face, he still remembered me years later when I happened to go into his store on Highland Street.

My family lives on highland st but before that we lived on dominion st. He ran the store on highland when I met him and it was always such a pleasure to go in and see Nick and Koula! My little girl grew up going to Nicks store as we called it! She always would give a sweet hello which Nick always seemed to look forward to saying back. Shed order her penny candies as Nick would be so patient with her as she decided what new candy she wanted to try! We were sad to see him close the store. But always looked forward to bumping into him. You will be truly missed Nick. He made so many great memories for kids to remember as adults. Honoured to have known such a kind man.

Sincere condolences to the family! Donnie and I knew Nick and Koula from TLJ convenience store. They were both so kind. I (Gail) spoke to Nick a few months ago and he told me that he wasn’t afraid to die. He said that Koula was alone and he needed to be with her. Nick is where he wanted to be…with Koula. Rest in peace Nick.

Punch Card Nick….One last time my friend I first met Nick in the mid 60’s when I first ascended up the stairs to The “CASINO” as a young naive kid . From the very first time I held a real Cue, Nick was more than happy to enlighten me as to the rules of the game of Billiards. He and his beautiful wife Koula were the most impressive couple of entrepreneurs I ever met. When you became a regular at the Casino, Nick was always considerate and kind and if we happened to play over the card price, Nick would say, You come tomorrow, you pay . I trust you.And absolutely we would return the next day, pay our card nd continue to hone our skills at Snooker and Poker Pool. I was so impressed with Nick , sometime later in the late 80’s I actually got my own opportunity to own the Casino for a time prior to the building being sold and although it was a brief time, I realized just how important his role in my young life had been. As others mentioned, Nick never forgot anyone….His memory now , will be foremost in my mind as we say goodbye…..Punch Card on #1 Nick…You were the best.

One of the nicest men I have ever met. Back in the day at the pool hall, he was always kind and caring. We would run into each other over the years, and he still remembered my name.
"How are you doing today, Denny?"
"Not bad, Nick. And you?"
"Oh, the same, you know."
To Tina, Jr, and Nick's family, please accept my deepest condolences. Your father was a good man, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
