Frederick Pius McPhee
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Fred McPhee on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Glace Bay General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Glace Bay on February 25, 1939, to the late Daniel and Florence (Morrison) McPhee.
In his early years Fred worked for Jackie Bettens Construction and in the Broughton Mine before his employment with Devco. Fred worked in 26 Colliery, Lingan and Prince Mines prior to his retirement in 1992. During that time, he made numerous lifelong friends. Although retired, Fred never stopped working. You could always see him out in the back yard tinkering around the vehicles, or in his truck with a load of gravel, coal, or anything else that he could haul. Fred had a love for music, and it showed when he played the accordion, guitar, or was seated at the piano. He was a talented dancer and him and Faye would burn up the dance floor on Saturday nights. He loved the outdoors and spent many summers at the bungalow in Beaver Cove with a fire burning and a cold drink in hand.
Fred shared a long and happy life with his wife of 60 years Faye (MacKinnon) and together they raised their sons Brad (Laura) and Brian (Kathy). He was the best Poppy ever to Brittany, Tyler, Robyn, Connor, Ryleigh and Miranda and great poppy to Jaylin, Jayce, Auston and Sophialynn. He will also be dearly missed by sisters Angela and Agnes, his in-laws Mario and Utah Hogan, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his fur baby Lucy.
Besides his parents, brothers Ambrose, Aloysius, Addie, and Murray and sisters Evelyn, Eileen, Barbara, Jeanette, and Sally predeceased Fred.
As per Fred’s request, cremation has taken place and visitation will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. and service to follow at 2 p.m., with Father Norman MacPhee presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Interment will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses of 3A at the CBRH and 3 South at the Glace Bay General for their kindness, care, and compassion shown to us at this difficult time.

We little knew that morning
That God was going to all your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the day
God called you home.
