I was sad to read about Bill's passing and send my condolences tp Penny and fhe whole family.
I was just a kid when Bill and Penny would spend an evening every now and then with my parents and some other friends in our livingroom with guitars. I was probably supposed to be sleeping but remember that Bill always sang an original called Steps. In my mind, it was his signature song. It has been 30+ years but I have fond memories of Bill and those kitchen/living room guitar parties.

In our place in Inverness the most welcome guests were Bill and Doug, whether it was to crash on the floor, a couch, a chair, but mostly it would be a night of songs (Gabrielle, Red Neon?, Steps) plus a several of Doug’s wonderful compositions, each song punnchated with stories, a fresh serving from the fridge, and more songs. I am saddened by his passing, and the knowledge that those nights will never return to this house again. Penny, my warmest condolences to you and your family. Bill mattered.

Dear Penny and family,
There is so much I want to say about Bill that it is hard to put into words. I am first, truly heartbroken for you all. As you know, Penny, I met Bill during "Load of Wood" times. I was just 16 years old and thanks to Bill, Sharon and a few others, I was permitted to sing. To say I felt like a rock star was an understatement. When I was finished my turn with my brother and friend whonplayed with us, the words of encouragement Bill gave me made me feel over the top. They even asked me to host a Load of Wood at Daniel's. I will never forget how he made me feel.
The came the days of "Big Wave". I was a huge Bob Dylan fan and he and Doug played Silvio. You know that feeling when music hits you and it's like lightening? That's what I felt.
I could tell 100 more stories and moments as I am sure everyone could.
Rest Easy Bill and know that you are absolutely one of a kind and I will never forget the memories you gave to me. Lots of love to Penny and the family xoxo

I knew Bill from my days as a budding pilot at Sydney Airport. Many times I’d go check the weather prior to a flight and hear him playing the guitar in the weather office which was always inspiring to hear him practice. A nice man, great meteorologist and fabulous guitar player. RIP Bill!

So sorry to hear about Bill. He was always such a great
spirit. I don’t think I ever saw Bill mad at anything or anybody.I will never forget when I had to go out west for work that he gave me a bunch of phone numbers to call
if I needed help with finding work. Always fun to be around, had a great laugh and just a wonderful attitude . His music and songs will live on and we will never forget him.

Dear Penny and Family,
How grieved we all are to learn of Bill’s passing. Such a unique and wonderful human being. When he performed, he made it seem so effortless and it was so obvious to those listening that he most definitely had music in his soul and that i5 meant a great deal to him. I still laugh when I think about his “alligators” composition - such a quick wit!
How I wish there were words to soften this blow for you all. I do know, however, that there are many thinking of you.
Sincere condolences to all,
Meg Horne

Bill was a wonderful man, friend and mentor. If Bill couldn't make you laugh, no one could. I wish I had the chance to tell him how much he meant to me, and what an impact had on countless other folks. You were lucky to call him family, and he will be fondly remembered by all.
