Obituary of Robie Dean Nickerson

Robie (90) passed away peacefully July 15, 2024 at DePaul Hall (Caritas). He was born in Centreville,Cape Sable Island and was the son of Sidney and Mary (Webber) Nickerson. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (2021), daughter Shelley (2012), sister Marilynn (2019) and grandson Chris (2023).
Robie is survived by his daughter Heather (Jim) Pelham, brothers Bob (Irene) and Burnley; sisters Adrienne, Stella and MaryAnn; grandchildren Nick Ross (Dana), Josh Pelham, Jenna Pelham-Todd (Andrew), Jake Pelham (Emily), Kelsey Ross (Riley), Jordan Pelham (Erin), step grandson Jason Ross (Nicole) and 12 great grandchildren.
Robie went to NSAC in Truro and Macdonald College (McGill Univ) graduating with a BSc in Agriculture in 1957. He worked for NS Dept of Agriculture for a short time before joining Cox Bros Poultry Farm in Stirling Brook, NS in 1963 where he worked until retirement in 2000. He and Mary retired to his mother's family homestead in Middlefield where he continued his love of farming.
Robie was a quiet, kind-hearted and generous person who had a very strong love of family. Uncle Robie/Poppy had a soft spot for all his nieces, nephews and grand children and enjoyed catching up with everyone at the many Nickerson Family Reunions and time spent at the farm.
In the last few years he enjoyed meeting and spending time with his great grandchildren who dropped in often to bring sunshine to his day.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 2, 2024, 3:00 to 5:00 in TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax. Alongside Mary, Robie was a longstanding member of the Caledonia United Church, words of comfort will be shared by Rev. Carol Smith during visitation.Interment will be at a later date in Middlefield cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. We would like to mention a special thank you to the staff of 4th floor DePaul Hall for their care and compassion during his final days.
