Obituary of Joan Marie Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mom, Joan Smith, age
73, on April 24th, 2024 at the Halifax Infirmary with family by her side.
Born in Halifax, mom was the daughter of the late Vivian and Kenneth Slaunwhite of Terence Bay.
Mom spent 40 + years working at Maritime Life/Manulife, where she made many wonderful
friends, in particular her dear friend Mary. Outside of work, mom loved to spend hours playing
board games and cards with her granddaughters, who were her pride and joy! She also loved to
read and enjoyed playing bingo at the Terence Bay Community Hall. Many happy memories
were made with her Rummoli group as well as with friends at their camp in Stewiacke.
Survived by her loving husband Freddie, of 53 years, as well as daughters, Dawn (Brian)
Slaunwhite, Kelly (TJ) Gerrior, granddaughters, Makenzie Slaunwhite, Hayley and Payton
Gerrior, she will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 6-8 pm at TJ Tracey
Funeral Home, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations can be made to Terence Bay Community Center.
