SLAUNWHITE - JAMES GREGORY - It is with heavy hearts that we announce James Gregory Slaunwhite, 99, of Terence Bay and Halifax passed away April 26, 2024 at the Ivany, Bedford surrounded by his loving family and his wife of 78 years, Marie (Ryan). Born in Terence Bay NS., to his loving parents Charles Slaunwhite and Hilda (Martin). Greg is survived by his loving wife Marie of 78 years. Four daughters, Elaine, Eleanor, Elizabeth (Peter) and Bonnie, One son Greg (Lisa), one son predeceased Tobias at infancy. Seven Grandchildren, Catherine, Barbie, Glen, Lisa, Jasmine, Nicole and Justine. Ten Great Grandchildren and Eighteen Great-great grandchildren. Greg was also predeceased by Four brothers and Two sisters. Greg worked his entire life for the federal government. He loved working with people and many would say they always remembered his infectious smile and how he took the time to get to know everyone. Greg was a principled man of integrity and a Music Man. Some would refer to him as the Guitar Man, always ready to sing or play a tune and sing with his family and friends who dropped by for a visit. Some of his greatest joy came from being with family and friends. He created many memories while enjoying road trips, family trips, traveling to Florida and camping. He enjoyed attending and supporting all of his family's many activities. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Greg managed his illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones, especially his wife, as possible. In his final days, he was surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren, who he adored more than anything else in the world. One of Greg's biggest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted children and considered himself lucky enough to have six. His children saw their dad as a hero, and even as adults, still see him that way. He was always there for them through their ups and downs. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those you love. His most proud achievement in life was marrying his wife Marie who supported him in all his endeavors during his heyday, and lovingly supported him physically and emotionally during their last days together. He was a true blessing to our family, and truly one of a kind who will be dearly missed and never forgotten by family and those he touched. Special thanks to the staff, 2nd floor, Ivany in Bedford who took care of our Dad so well. We love you. A Funeral service will be held at a later date and cremation has been entrusted to T.J.
