Obituary of Victor Erwin Slade

Victor Erwin Slade, 84 Glace Bay, N.S. We the family of Victor Erwin Slade, 84, of Glace Bay are deeply saddened to announce his passing on January 26, 2024, in the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Victoria, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Angus and Wilhelmina (Cole) Slade. Victor worked as a Lobster Fisherman for many years, and prior in life worked for Lands and Forests. Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing, and playing guitar, he also enjoyed doing a bit of carpentry work in his pastime. In his younger years he was quite the baseball player, being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and winning the Bay Bye Championship. Victor is survived by his partner Maggie; five sons: Douglas Slade (Carol), Keith MacKeigan, Curtis Slade, Brian Slade, and Jarrod Wadden (Kendra); four daughters: Brenda Comer (Blair), Kim Slade, Judy MacDougall, and Lisa (Jeffrey) Demeyere; two brothers: Douglas and John Slade; six sisters: Mary Walsh, Jackie Dusome, Darlene MacDougall, Linda Aucoin, Rose (Kenneth) Marsden, Diane (Jim) Buckley, and several nieces and nephews. Nine grandchildren also survive him: Cheryl, Jason, Daniel, Lyndon, Courtney, Devon, Mitchell, Ciara, and Grayson; seven great-grandchildren: Logan, Madison, Callie, Ada, Carly, Georgia, and Nora Lee. Along with his parents, Victor was predeceased by a son Victor, granddaughter Crystal Comer, grandson Robbie Hannan and son-in-law Eric MacDougall; as well as sisters Violet Slade, Margie Slade, Marie Slaunwhite, and brothers Ernest, Angus, and Clarence. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 1-2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m. in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses (RN’s, L.P.N.’s, C.C.A.’s, specifically Allen MacPhee) of 3 West in the Glace Bay Hospital who cared for Dad during his stay with them. We would also like to thank the team in the Kitchen, we will never forget all the kindness, compassion and over all professional care. You made this challenging time much more acceptable.
