Brian Roger Ferguson
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden loss of Brian, on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, due to a fall at home. Brian was born and raised in Glace Bay, N.S., and was the son of the late Donald “Fergie” and Mary (Smith) Ferguson.
Brian is survived by his sister, Marilyn Jones, Port Hawkesbury; his sweetheart, Claire MacKay, Glace Bay; niece, Rebecca Jones, New Glasgow; nephew, Jay Jones, Vancouver. Brian is also survived by an Aunt Shirley Appleton, Glace Bay, and numerous Ferguson and Smith cousins.
Throughout his life, Brian loved music, particularly songs with a story or message. His first radio was a transistor which he received for Christmas when he was eleven. His last radio was on his Tablet where he was thrilled to listen to music from around the world. Recently, while listening to “If”, sung by Roger Whittaker, Brian said, “it still gives me goosebumps.” Check it out on Google. Matched by his love of music was Brian’s love of cars. He loved driving cars, trading them, admiring them and never passed a dealership without driving around the car lot.
Brian graduated from the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Business Management. He worked in and managed jewelry stores in various locations in Nova Scotia.
Brian enrolled in the last barbering class at Marconi Campus. His motivation to return to Glace Bay was to be with his father who was living alone at the age of 92. He established Brian’s Barber Shop on Park Street in Glace Bay, and continued barbering until his untimely death.
Along with his parents Mary and Donald, Brian was predeceased by his brother-in-law Kenzie Jones.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
