Obituary of Joseph Anthony Byrne

Nov 2, 1943 - Sept 10, 2023 Joe passed away suddenly but peacefully surrounded by his family at the QEII. Leaving to mourn are his family, beloved wife Margaret, sons Brett (Elaine), Chris, Rob, Craig (Anne-Marie). Siblings Frank (Mabel), Mary (Graham), Rita, Carmel and Mary Sooley. "Poppy Joe" will be missed by his cherished grandchildren Christine, Alyssa (Alex), Liam, Olivia, Jasper, Cassidy, Caleigh and great granddaughter Mila. Predeceased by his parents Sadie and Frank, siblings Elizabeth, Pat and Mike. Born in NL, Joe loved to tell stories of growing up in his hometown of Buchans. Joe could often be found skiing, golfing, watching soccer, cheering on the Blue Jays or telling a good joke. He also enjoyed travelling and spending time with his friends and family. Before his retirement, Joe had a successful career in the auto insurance industry to which he dedicated many years of service and entrepreneurial ventures. A celebration of life will be held at Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax, on Tuesday, Sept 19th at 12:15pm. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors at the QEII and Cobequid Emergency Departments. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax, N.S. 902-835-4212. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Beacon House Food Bank.
